When asked what inspires his writing, Jason thoughtfully answers with
"As Douglas Adams said when I asked him what inspired him at a book signing - "Poverty and despair." I think I'm trying to overcome the poverty of imagination in thinking about systemic issues we face as a species, while telling a good story. We understand the world through story, whether we are aware of the narrative or not. And I think we are so encapsulated in the narrative of the current paradigm we don't realize it's just a story we tell ourselves about the way the world works. If we told a different story, the world would be different.
I also want, or probably need, to address my own despair about those same problems by trying to come up with an alternative narrative. And it's only by imagining the lived experience of fictional characters that we can really get a sense of what it might be like to live in a different paradigm."
